''I am Being Locked Out Of Parliamentary Commission Meetings'' - LOP Ssenyonyi Cries Out.

The Leader of Opposition Rt Hon Joel Ssenyonyi has asked the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Among not to manage the Parliamentary Commission as her personal kiosk, saying he has been locked out of meetings of the Commission and called on Police to cast its net wider into the Commission is it is serious about eliminating the corruption racket Parliament.

He made the remarks while addressing journalists at Parliament, where he revealed that several Committees are incapable of carrying out their oversight roles under the pretext of lack of funds, yet there are billions of shillings that the Speaker is spending on Corporate Social Responsibility.

"At least in my case, I am not going to keep quiet when things go wrong, I am not to keep quiet when the Commission is operating like a small clique. Because the Commission isn’t just these few back benchers that meet, distribute money amongst themselves. They meet to approve recruitments of several people many of whom we understand are their relatives. They meet to award contracts in some cases where there is conflict of interest because in some of the companies that are awarded contracts, belong to people who sit in some of these small meetings and maybe that is why, they don’t invite some of us for these meetings because we shall ask questions," noted Ssenyonyi

“As some MPs are being arrested, we need to broaden the investigation of the Parliament of Uganda beginning with the Parliamentary Commission because that is where lots of things are happening. If the people investigating Parliament are serious, they should start with Parliamentary Commission. So the tendency for the Parliamentary Commission to operate clandestinely without the members of the Commission raises a lot of suspicion and this has got to be addressed,” remarked Ssenyonyi

LOP Ssenyonyi has challenged the lack of sufficient funds for the committees to run their routine businesses saying that instead billions of money are being spent on for personal work

“Let Parliament work as an institution, and not someone’s small kiosk or small property because that is why we have a challenge in this country, that is why there are billions of money running on different accounts for personal work and yet Committees don’t have money to operate. It is something I am challenging, it is something I am not going to keep quiet about and I will not allow somebody to intimidate me because I am not here on invitation of anybody. I was voted by the people of Nakawa West, nobody in this building invited me,” noted

LOP Ssenyonyi's address come after the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) at Kibuli is still carrying on investigations at parliament after allegations of gross corruption and abuse of the taxpayer's money.

So far  CID has  detainted three legislators at CID headquartes Kibuli on allegatiosns of corruption and waiting to be charged in the Anti Corruption Court.

The detainees are Parliament’s Legal Committee vice chairperson, Yusuf Mutembuli; Lwengo Woman MP, Cissy Namujju and Busiki County MP, Paul Akamba.
