Internal Affairs Ministry Launches National Report On Counter Trafficking In Persons In Uganda For 2022

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Lt Gen Joseph B. Musanyufu, along with the Chairperson of the National Task Force for Counter Trafficking in Persons in Uganda, have launched the National Report On Counter Trafficking In Persons In Uganda For 2022.

The report launched on Wednesday 19/07/2023 at Silversprings Hotel in Bugolobi, Kampala, indicated an increase in the cases reported to Police by 185.03% in 2022 i.e 1200 cases compared to 421 cases in 2021. Adult/Trafficking in persons was highest with 55.7% or 668 cases: Child trafficking - 44.3% representing 532 cases. The Ofiice of the Directorate of Public Protection ODPP secured 79 convictions.

The increase was attributed to the increased awareness campaigns by the National COPTIP office and Stakeholders and increased capacity building of Police Investigators, Prosecutors, Immigration and border security officers and other Stakeholders during the year under review.

The NTF is coordinated by The National Coordination office for Prevention of Trafficking in Persons-COPTIP and several other local and International Stakeholders. Please take caution to avoid falling victims Trafficking.
