Karamoja Iron Sheets Scandal Widens as More Cases to be Forwarded to the ODPP.

The Uganda Police Force (UPF) will soon send more cases related to the Karamoja iron sheets scandal to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for consideration.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga informed journalists during a weekly press briefing at the Naguru head offices that additional officials implicated in the scandal were questioned, and their case files would be submitted to the ODPP for direction.

Enanga also stated that once the remaining case files were sent to the ODPP, they would determine which suspects would face charges.

Recently, the Anti-Corruption Court remanded the Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Mary Gorreti Kitutu Kimono, to Luzira Prison for allegations of loss of public property, corruption, and conspiracy to defraud the government.

Kitutu is accused of diverting 14,500 iron sheets meant for the Karamoja Community Empowerment Program to her personal use and that of others, leading to a loss of public property between June 2022 and January 2023.

The State House Anti-corruption Unit, Criminal Investigations Directorate-CID, and ODPP are jointly investigating the matter.
