Landlords Now Prefer Foreign Tenants As They Pay More And Timely Than Nationals.
Makindye West Member of Parliament Hon. Allan Ssewanyana has told parliament that there Are communities of Congolese in Makindye, Kibuuye II Parish, Eritreans in Lukuuli, Nsambya Parishes, and even Somalis in Kampala Central whom he said are almost overtaking the population of the residents there and landlords no longer want to rent their houses to nationals since the foreigners pay in time and higher amounts.
He added that refugees are not in camps as many Ugandans may think in Kampala but living luxurious lives compared to nationals.
Most of these people have too much money to avail themselves of good houses, and food and now houses are becoming too expensive for our residents calling. govt to settle these people in one area
they have made life in their localities too hard since these foreigners have raised the standard of living to expensive.
Uganda, Africa's largest refugee host, provides refuge to over 1.5 million people. Most refugees come from South Sudan (57%), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (32%), Somalia (3%), and Burundi (3%) among other countries.
