Man Cuts his Nephew Into Pieces, Puts Body Parts Inside Saucepan for Cooking, Arrested
On January 14, 2024, at around 1100hrs, a distressing event unfolded in Kyanyanzira village, Nyanga parish, Rubare sub-county, Ntungamo District. Basiima Stephen, a 63-year-old community leader, reported the murder of 11-year-old Ariiho Patrick, a pupil of Kiyombero Primary School.
Allegedly, Nelson Akandwanaho, identified as the biological uncle of the deceased, was found cutting Patrick's feet into pieces in his home. Upon discovering the gruesome scene, the community mobilized, apprehended the suspect, and handed him over to Omungyenyi police post.
Police registered the case (CRB 66/2024) and conducted a thorough investigation. The crime scene was visited by the Homicide team from CPS Ntungamo, statements were recorded, and the body was examined on-site. Disturbingly, some body parts were discovered in the suspect's toilet, while others, including the head and trunk, were found in the neighborhood toilet belonging to the deceased's grandfather.
The suspect, Nelson Akandwanaho, revealed a history of mental illness. The investigation also uncovered that the deceased was left alone at home as his grandparents attended church, providing an opportunity for the heinous act. Body parts, including a leg, one arm, one foot, and fingers, were found cut and prepared for cooking.
Akandwanaho Nelson is currently in custody pending further investigations, with inquiries ongoing.
