Murderer Kirabo Who Fled After Killing Girlfriend Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison

The High Court in Mukono has sentenced Mathew Kirabo to 30 years in prison for murdering his girlfriend, Desire Mirembe a Makerere University student at the time of her demise on July 10, 2015.

Kirabo was convicted in absentia on May 30, 2022, after he had jumped bail by the trial judge, Justice Henry Kaweesa Isabirye until when he would be captured. He was charged and consequently convicted of murder contrary to sections 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Act.

Kirabo who was on the run was captured by Interpol. "We wish to inform the public that a fugitive, Mathew Kirabo wanted by Mukono High Court, and has been on the run for the last couple of years,  was arrested by Interpol Kenya, who successfully identified him, on the 12.09.2023 following a Red Notice from Interpol Uganda," Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson said.

Justice Henry Isabirye Kaweesa, the presiding judge sentenced Kirabo to 29 years, 10 months and 3 days in prison in consideration of his time in remand.
