Museveni Orders Security, UNRA To Remove Nkumba Traffic Lights

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who also doubles appointing Authority has ordered security and Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) with immediate effect to remove Nkumba junction traffic lights, we have exclusively learnt.

 Intelligence sources say Presidential order came after several people complained to the President that Nkumba traffic lights are the source of accidents along that road.

 "The President has been receiving several calls from all types of people to intervene and have those traffic removed to reduce on the number of accidents," state house sources told us.

 Sources say after a bus carrying primary students of trust Infant Primary School in Nakaseke district got involved in an accident on the same traffic lights President immediately called a meeting at state house state to discuss the matter.

"The president called UNRA boss Allen Kagina,Police Chief Abbas Byakagaba, SFC boss, Minister of Works and Transport among others to discuss the wayfoward," Says an inside state house sources.

Sources say during a heated meeting, a resolution was reached out to have the traffic lights removed to reduce on the rate of accidents along that road. 

"The Presidential order  implemented by UNRA and the trouble traffic lights were removed on Tuesday," says another security source.

When contacted UNRA PRO Allen Ssempebwa confirmed the presidential directive on removing those traffic lights.

 "The lights were put up to control traffic but some motorists have not been seeing them and end up causing accidents," he says adding the rights which were put in the valley were removed.

It should be remembered that those traffic lights claimed the lives of important citizines among them was prominent Lawyer Raphael Okiot who also doubled as a lecturer at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono.
