National Census In Ripping Stage As UBOS Dispatches 3410 Tablets To Local Districts
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) an independent body responsible for conducting Census after 10 years,has reached its final stages of conducting its first ever digital National Housing and Population Census in Uganda, Spyreports can exclusively reveal.
The digital Census which many have been doubting, has been confirmed by dispatching the first batch of tablets totaling to 3410 to Northern Uganda. The First dispatch was flagged off by the Minister of State for Finance Hon Amos Lugolobi at UBOS ware based in Ntinda a Kampala suburb.
The first batch went to the following districts, Gulu, Gulu City, Apache, Aliputong,Amulat,Atuke. The dispatch of materials which included tablets, T-shirts, bags among others was also witnessed by UBOS ED Dr Chris Mukiza, Dr Albert Byamugisha Chairman Board among other UBOS top officials.
Minister Lugolobi during his presentation says that shs 320 bn which government released for this digital Census has been fully put to use. "I don't expect any audit query after this census because we have fully put all the money to proper use, " he says. He added that Procurement of all census materials including tablets has been completed.
He also said training of trainers and district supervisors was also conducted and what is remaining is training of Enumerators which will be begin on Monday. He called up Ministers, MPs, religious leaders and other leaders at all levels to mobilise the population to get involved in Census. "Census information will not be shared or released to any body," he says adding that this data will be used to allocate and distribute resources.
"This data will help us to know which areas have power, schools, roads, hospitals, security among others and also which places lack the same facilities such that the government can improve in delivery of resources," Says Minister.
The Executive Director Dr Chris Mukiza meanwhile warned RDC who are trying to stop or postponed the training in there districts to go slow. "I want to be clear and straight on this.
RDC have no powers to stop or postponed this training. It is not their mandate. Their role is to provide security during this training," Says Tough Mukiza adding any RDC who dares to stop this training will face full wrath of the law. He also warned CAOs who have refused to remove people who were shortlisted illegally.
He also extended his thanks to Security and other government agencies which offered their vehicles to help in transportation of Census Materials to various parts of the Country.
