NUP's Lewis Rubongoya Attacks IGG Betty Kamya Over Her Statement on Corruption
The Secretary General of the opposition party National Unity Platform NUP, Lewis Rubongoya has watered down the statement on corruption in Uganda that was issued by the Inspector General of Government IGG, Hon Beti Olive Namisango Kamya.
In a statement released on Rubongoya's social media, he said, "IGG Betty Kamya's lamentation on corruption is sadly about the symptoms, and not the disease. She calls out everyone except the cause of the problem! Corruption begins by rigging (call it stealing) elections. It denies the rulers any moral authority to enforce morality."
NUP's Secretary General took it further a notch by saying, "when a government is in power through broad daylight election-theft and there are no consequences, how do you convince public servants not to steal public funds? How do you convince teachers and students not to cheat exams? Health workers not to sell government medicine? Contractors not to inflate costs? How do you enforce anti-corruption laws when everyone knows you're in power through corruption?" He called for fixing the foundation and that the house will stand firm.
