Otafiire To Hold Crisis Meeting With Attorney General, Administrator General Over Luzira Prison Relocation On Museveni's Directive
Luzira Prisons Services has already identified a big chunk of land totaling one square mile out of the 3.5 square miles in the Buikwe district to construct a modern Luzira Prison.
This followed a letter from President Museveni to the minister of Internal Affairs indicating that he was approached by Tian Tang Group an investor who is willing to construct an Ultra-Modern City suburb and relocate the national prison but all at his cost.
In response to the President's directive to follow up on the matter, Maj. Gen. Otaffire Wrote to the minister and has penned down to the Attorney General and the Administrator General to hold a meeting on 6th March 2024 to discuss legal matters concerning the land identified.
It was discovered that the family of the Late Antonio Lutwama Kabogoza who owned the land had never applied for letters of Administration ever since the late passed on in 1928. The letter reads in part.
However, the family and other beneficiaries of the said land agreed to sell one square mile to Uganda Prisons Services. The land also is on the old Buganda estates and now the Minister and the concerned government legal bodies have to review the said family's position.
The prison is in the Luzira neighborhood in Nakawa Division in southeastern Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. The prison is approximately 10 kilometers (6 mi) south-east of the city's central business district.
