Over 5000 Street Kids Removed From  Ugandan Streets over NAM, G77 Summit

A total of over 5000 street kids that live in the Ugandan Capital City Kampala have been removed and taken to Masulita Rehabilitation center as the country prepares for NAM and the G77 summit taking place in Uganda.
The operation process of removing the street kids was headed by Uganda Police Force, Kampala Capital City Authority KCCA and Make A Child Smile an NGO which ensures safety and rehabilitation of these street kids by transforming their lives.
According to Mr Chris Gay, the Executive Director  KCP counter human trafficking, Make A Child Smile in Uganda works with the relevant authorities in government to ensure that street kids are removed from all streets and taken into rehabilitation centers to change their mindsets and their lives. Mr Alex Sembatya, the operations manager in Make A Child Smile told us that, they worked together with Uganda Police and KCCA to make sure, they remove children from the streets and also arrest the traffickers who traffic them from different parts of the country.
Alex added that they are using intelligence led investigations to trace and arrest the promoters, traffickers and harbours of these street children. "We carried out an intelligence led operation in areas of Nsambya katende zone on Friday only  comprising of Kampala metropolitan police, later police, KCCA  where a total of 523 children were found in depilated structures and majority minors in age group of 0- 17 years without adult supervision,"says Mr Alex. He added that these children were sleeping in numbers of 20-30 per room. Mr Alex also told us that the owners of these depilated houses were identified and 10 of them were arrested to help police in it's investigations. All the children removed from Ugandan capital city Kampala were taken to Masulita children's village for rehabilitation.
