Police Arrest Suspect with Assembled IED and Bomb Making Equipment
Detectives from the Directorate of Counter-Terrorism in coordination with the territorial team in Kampala Metropolitan East, responded to an explosion, which went off mistakenly, after its assembler tampered with it. The task team cordoned off the area and conducted a search arrest of one, Mugabe Collins, aged 23,at Banda zone II, Nakawa division.
An assembled IED was recovered and an assortment of other bomb making materials which included; 3 jerrycans of nitric acid, methanol, ethanol, 6 bottles of potassium nitrate, potassium bromide, Ammonium nitrate, lead nitrate, aluminium metal powder, and note/text books on bomb making materials. He had taken steps and constructed two IEDs, one of which, went off mistakenly, after he tampered with it at night.
"Our task teams are interrogating him further, to establish whether he is linked to any terror group and for potential targets.
We would like to thank our counter terrorism squad, the Bomb squad, the territorial teams in KMP East, and the local community in Banda zone II, Nakawa, for their efforts. This case serves as another reminder for continued vigilance in the community," said the Police Spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga.
"The arrest demonstrates our resolve and commitment to counter and neutralise all forms of terrorism and extremism in the country," he added.
