Two Suspects Arrested for Allegedly Trafficking 131 People

Police have in custody 2 suspects namely Namubiru Rashida, a trainer and Ramathan Hakim on allegations of trafficking of people. The Territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan North and Nansana Division, raided a home that was harbouring 131 persons, under the guise of training and inducting them for the labour market in the Middle East. The home was not registered or licenced to operate.

The facts gathered indicate that a one Musa Suna, without registering his WORLD GATE training centre, was conducting training for 131 persons recruited by different agents and gathered them in a home in Nansana. The training was basically in catering and cleaning of houses, for the job market in the Middle East.The victims had spent several months on training, all their phones removed to block them from any external contact. They were initially confined in a fenced home in Nansana and on the 22.07.2023, transferred to Akright cell where they were recovered from the home of Alex Mary Nantongo.

The 8 companies that handed over the recruited victims include; Cornel Recruitment Co, Janulani – Kalerwe, Swift in Wakaliga, Masaba located in Kawempe (Kutano), Trinity Travel Agency, located in Nkrumah (Makayi Plaza), Herbrah International located in Bukoto, Wamba Recruitment Agency and Labaf Solution located in Minister’s Village, Ntinda.

"As the Joint Security Agencies, we are committed to doing everything within out means, to combat the dangerous and exploitative crime of Human Trafficking, that devastates survivors and their families. Efforts are in place to identify and locate all the other perpetrators of Human trafficking who are part of this racket and still at large, and ensure they are arraigned before the courts of law.

We would like to applaud the community for their levels of vigilance, which enabled our task teams in Kajjansi to raid the rented hub, rescued the victims and handed them over to their families," said Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson.
