Police Chiefs,UPDF Generals Clash Over IGP Seat

A serious rift has erupted between the police chiefs and UPDF Generals deployed in Uganda Police on who should take over as the next Inspector General of Police (IGP) Spyreports has exclusively learnt.

According to information we have reliably got, the term for current IGP Martin Okoth Ochola expires in March this year and the chances the President Museveni will renew his Contract seem to be slim.

"The President is likely not to renew the Contract of Ochola as IGP for another three years. If he was to continue, he would have renewed it long time," Says an insider in state house.

The source however says they have not gotten any link on who will replace Ochola as the next IGP.
"We have not received any names for vetting on the position of the next IGP and the time is almost over. May be the president has got his secret person whom he will appoint as IGP without being vetted," Says another State house source.

We have also been reliably informed that the was for IGP position has divided police chiefs and Army officers at Naguru police headquarters. "We must be ones to head police not police officers to head us," a source at Naguru quoted one of the army officers saying.

The source says that the army officers adds that "Our ranks carry alot of weight than those of police officers so they should be under us,".
Another source quoted a police officer saying that " Army should not lead police because they do not know the operations of police,". "Army officers should be deployed in police as support staff but not leaders of police," Another senior police chief who wants the seat was quoted saying. "We can not go and lead the army but we can be deployed in the UPDF family as support staffs," Says another police chief.

Recently some police officers were heard complaining that when army officers are deployed in police they come with a large number of army officers and take their positions. "Can you imagine one Arny officer comes with over 30 officers and they fill our positions and we end losing," Another police officer says. " I was deployed in the office of human resource but when we got a director from the army he came with a large number and I lost my position yet I had all the qualifications, " Says a police officer who asked to be protected.

Another police officer from Counter Terrorism told us that army officers come with their guards and take over their duties." What annoys me is that when we go on training with army officers, we defeat them but when it comes to duties they claim to be superior to us while not," Another officer says. "CT is responsible for guarding all police Directors, DIGP and IGP so we wonder why should army officer come with UPDF escorts when we are there," Says a CT officer.

According to the information army officers who are lobbing for IGP seat include Maj Gen Katsigazi who acts as Deputy IGP, Brig. Damulira who serves as Director Crime intelligence, Maj.Gen Abel Kanduho, who works as Joint Chief of Staff. Police officers who are also warming up for the seat are AIGP Grace Akullo director Interpol, SCP Frank Mwesigwa Deputy Director Counter terrorism, SCP Moses Kafero Commandant Bwebajja, AIGP John Ndugutse police attache in Nairobi among others.
However it will be upon the President to choose the next Inspector of Police in the next few days.
