Police Living Condition,Some Officers Are Sharing Rooms That Are Only Separated By Curtains-UHRC Report
The Uganda Human Rights Commission has revealed that Police Officers in Uganda are living in extremely and unimaginable deplorable living conditions, where some officers are sharing rooms that are only separated by curtains.
Tayebwa however re-assured the Commission that Parliament will ensure that funds are provided to cover pension for public officers in the 2024/2025 budget, since it is a statutory obligation.
He also decried the Shs841 billion budget ceiling for the Force's medium term expenditure, against the proposed Shs3.2 trillion budget. He said this leaves a lot of unfunded priorities.
Tayebwa added that from the observations, the UHRC report calls for major reforms, focusing on the mismatches in our criminal justice system to strengthen forensic investigations, prosecution and safeguard law and order.
He also thanked security forces, the police and the army for maintaining law and order despite having unfavorable living conditions.
The Inspector General of Police was represented by the Director Human Rights AIGP Erasmus Twaruhukwa who welcomed the report finding.
