Police in Kyengera are investigating a case of suspected suicide.

Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a man's death after losing shs7millon to a prostitute.

According to Patrick Onyango, a spokesman for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident took place at the Channel 3 Lodge in the Wakimese zone of the Kyengera Town Council Wakiso District when Herbert Namugera, 32, committed suicide.

“It’s alleged that the deceased left Ssembabule District and came to process his travel documents in preparation for employment abroad. He however got an adult entertainer, one Brenda who stole all his money amounting to Shs 7 million,” Onyango said.

According to Oyango, the deceased, who was at this point perplexed, phoned his closest friend Lwiga Mohamad, who accompanied him to the Kyengera police station where they reported the theft case under SD REF 21/10/03/2023.

The Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson said police looked for Brenda the entire day within the area but failed to trace her after being told she had shifted.

“On the 11th/03/2023 at around 0930hrs, the lodge attendants knocked on the door where Namugera was but there was no response. When they peeped from the bathroom window, they saw him hanging in the bathroom. He had committed suicide and they reported the matter to police.”

“The deceased Namugera used a bed sheet which he tied on the pole inside the bathroom roof to commit suicide”.

The body was sent to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem, according to Onyango, who said a team of police officers inspected the location, examined it, and documented it.
