Police Officer Killed by Mob on Suspicion of Theft in Budaka District.

A police officer attached to the police headquarters inNaguru Kampala was reportedly killed by a mob in Budaka District on suspicion of being a thief.

According to ASP Immaculate Alaso, the North Bukedi Region police spokesperson, Police constable Sedulaki Wakulu, who resided in Lyama village, Lyama Sub-county, Budaka District, was killed on April 10 around 1 am.

“Preliminary information indicates that last night (April 10) at Nampangala village, No 45549 PC Sedulaki Wakulu was found in front of the door of a store [for agricultural produce]. The store belongs to one Ivan Okoboi”, Alaso said.

Alaso reported that Wakulu attempted to flee when he saw Okoboi approaching, but Okoboi raised an alarm, which led to neighbors chasing him and eventually catching him. The neighbors then accused him of theft and proceeded to beat him.

Wakulu revealed to the mob that he was a police constable from Naguru police headquarters in Kampala, but unfortunately, it was already too late. He was taken to Budaka Health Centre IV for medical attention after his colleagues from Budaka Central Police Station were notified. However, shortly after he was admitted, he was declared dead.

ASP Alaso strongly denounced the use of mob action as a way of dispensing justice to suspects and emphasizes the need for people to cooperate with the police in maintaining law and order instead of resorting to such unlawful measures.
