Police Officer Kills Self by Shooting, Leaves Behind a Letter to His Father
Detectives attached to Kasanjje police station are investigating circumstances under which a police officer shot dead himself and left a worrying letter to his father. The deceased officer has been identified as No. 65826 PC Were Robert 34 year and attached to PPG Kalangolo Detach in Zziba ward Kasanjje town council in Wakiso district.
According to our sources, the deceased left the detach without permission from his commanders to unknown destination abandoning his gun and the magazine in his uniport.
Its further alleged that the sir major of the detach learnt of his absence and they went to his uniport and picked the gun for safe custody.
When the deceased came back to the detach, he was arrested and detained at the centry box at the quarter guard.
The centry box was partitioned into two rooms, one for cells and the other for accommodation of No.66072 PC Tumwesigye Elly and No. 75322 PC Talemwa Benson.
However, the partition wall was constructed half way and it's alleged that the deceased used it to jump over the partition wall into the room where the said officers reside, picked the riffle no. UG UPDF 565907296 from the Tent of Tumwesigye Elli, within the centry box, charged it and shot 9 bullets through the locked metallic door after which he turned the muzzle on his neck turned the gun in rapid and shot at himself.
The scene was examined by ASP Amutuhaire Amon, the OC of Kasanje Police Station, along with a team of officers and the SOCO unit. They discovered the lifeless body of the individual, positioned half-prone, clutching a rifle identified as UG UPDF 565907296, complete with a magazine, in their left hand. The right hand rested on the firearm.
Tragically, the body exhibited severe head injuries, indicative of a violent incident. At the crime scene, a total of 16 cartilage casings were collected as evidence. Further inspection revealed one bullet, retrieved from the chamber of both rifles, UG UPDF 565907296 and UG UPDF 560331488, all of which were found at the scene.
Two suicide notes were also discovered on the deceased. One note instructed the reader to contact the individual's father and ensure the safekeeping of his property for his children. The second note expressed grievances about the individual's treatment by superiors and their detention in unsanitary conditions.
Both rifles, along with the cartilage casings, were secured as part of the investigation. The body was subsequently transported to the city mortuary for a postmortem examination by UP 7705.
