Police Refute Claims Connected To Sodomizing Suspects In Custody

The Uganda Police Force has refuted claims circulating on various media platforms about sodomizing suspects detained in police cells especially the March to parliament Anti corruption protesters arrested recently.

The police public relations officer Kituuma Rusoke noted that that complainants complained to the university don called Spire who also claimed that he was also told about the claims.
 
''If we were to get any complaint of this nature, we would certainly not sit on it because it would be a violation of human rights of the suspects''. Said Rusoke.

Police further clarified that the suspect who came through police hands on the day it is alleged did not spend a night in custody since they were taken to court as they were collected that day.

Police have however appealed to anybody who says was sodomized should come out and report to police since police can not deal with unanimous victim.

On 23rd July 2024 Anti corruption activists stormed streets of kampala with an intention to reach Parliament to condemn corruption at the legistration basing on media reports but were intercepted by security forces leading to arrest of over 100 suspects.

"Uganda Police is reliably informed of ongoing mobilization efforts on social media calling for people to march to parliament. Unidentified organizers have circulated placards urging people to gather on all Kampala streets on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 but the time of commencement and organizational details are unclear. Given the lack of transparency and potential for disorder, the police strongly warn against proceeding with this match''. Said Police spokesperson .

Uganda Police Force further  issue warning against attempts to incite violence or breach public order through uncontrolled demonstrations.

''The right to a peaceful protest will be respected, but police will not tolerate attempts to incite public disorder.  UPF urges persons who wish to exercise their rights such as the right to assembly and demonstrate to always work collaboratively with it to ensure that they don’t aid persons of ulterior motives to hijack these expressions to accomplish criminal intentions''.Police warned prior the protests.
