Police later deployed it's dogs to trace the killer suspect and dogs took officers straight to the  residence of a retired UPDF Brig Gen Charles Tusiime Rwatalago.
According to Cpl  Martin Igama a prime suspect, the incident transpired during his duty at approximately 02:13 AM on August 17th, 2023. He reported encountering two individuals whom he suspected to be thieves at his designated post within the residence. Among them, the deceased was observed attempting to scale the tall perimeter wall fence from inside the premises, while his accomplice remained outside, keeping watch over the wall.

In an attempt to deter them, Martin fired a shot at the individual climbing the wall, hoping to scare them off. However, he admitted that he was unaware of where the bullet had struck. In the aftermath of the gunshot, both individuals fled the scene. In a moment of panic, Martin opened the gate and fired three more shots indiscriminately, intending to further discourage their presence.

To Martin's shock, he discovered the unfortunate outcome of his actions later in the  morning, on August 17th, 2023, around 06:00 AM. The gunshot had indeed hit one of the suspected thieves, leading to his tragic death approximately 180 meters away from the scene. This revelation weighed heavily on Martin's conscience, as the situation had taken a far more serious turn than he initially anticipated.

Significantly, a CCTV camera was present at the aforementioned residence, suggesting the possibility of capturing critical moments on video.
The body of the deceased bore fresh gunshot wounds, entering through the chest and exiting from his back, further affirming the events of that fateful night. During a search of the body, items including wires modified for opening doors and a piece of iron bar were found in the deceased's possession, potentially shedding light on his intentions of stealing from the residence.
