Speaker bars Deputy Attorney General from defending any bill in Parliament for as long as she chairs the House.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among while chairing the House today got into a bitter exchange with the Deputy Attorney General, Hon Jackson Rakafuuzi.

The latter was accused of disrespecting the Speaker by writing to the president alleging that Parliament made a mistake and forced him into passing the Bill. Rt. Hon Among said, " from today onwards, you'll not come to this House and defend any Bill under my leadership.

The disagreement was as a result of the president returning the Anti Homosexual Bill 2023. According to the President, some of the provisions of the Bill need to be reconsidered and reviewed by Parliament.

By the end of business, Parliament reconsidered the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023 and passed it with amendments to the 4 clauses that formed the basis of President Museveni's return of the Bill.

Persons who knowingly allow their premises to be used for acts of homosexuality now face 7 yrs in jail upon conviction while those who fail to report acts of homosexuality while having knowledge about them face a fine of Ushs10 million or 5 years in jail.
