Top UPDF, Police Chiefs Hold Crisis Meeting over Bobiwine's Impending Demonstrations
Senior Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF), Police Chiefs on Friday held an emergency and crisis meeting after getting intelligence information that Bobiwine's supporters have planned a massive demonstrations and riots in Kampala and across the country.
The crisis meeting which was chaired by Military Police Commander Brig Gen Beinomugisha and Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Senior commissioner of police Stephen Tanui was attended by all the Region Police Commanders (RPCs), Division Police Commanders (DPCs) in Kampala was held at the Kampala metropolitan south regional offices in Natete.
According to our sources who attended the meeting, all officers were told to ensure that their areas of responsibilities don't be penetrated by opposition honchos which can be a free way for their supporters to creat havock in the City and entire country. "Please be vigilant enough and put your eyes and ears on ground because opposition guys have a mass movement that they have prepared to fight us back,"says one of the commanders in the meeting.
Early this week the Deputy Inspector General of Police Gen Kasigazi stopped Bobiwine from conducting any further mobilization campaigns country wide until further notice. However in response Bobiwine warned Gen Kasigazi and Uganda Police Force at large that he is not willing to abide by their illegal orders saying that they will continue with their mobilization campaigns and tours as they have planned.
Our sources added that intelligence gathered so far indicates that Bobiwine's supporters and other opposition figures have already finished their demonstration plans and programs and they are beginning on Monday first within Kampala metropolitan areas and then afterwards move on to the entire country.
"Bobiwine is giving us sleepless nights because of his growing in numbers of supporters and I can tell you we have never held a such meeting," says another top officer who attended the meeting.
The security meeting also hinted on the recent waves of Bombo threats which had been put in different areas within Kampala and that the threat is still there meaning commanders shouldn't relax and these terrorists can cause mayhem to Ugandans. "Let's keep the vigilance on the Bombo threats because we are still a target for terrorists," officers warned.
