Mpuuga Snubs NUP Visit To Mengo -Joins Speaker Among And Tayebwa To Buy Kabaka's Birthday Kits Worth Shs50m.

The speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among and her Deputy Thomas Tayebwa have led a group of Members of Parliament To Buganda Kingdom Headquarters Bulange Mengo to support the 2024 Kabaka's birthday Run. 

 The campaign is to support the fight against HIV/AIDS spearheaded by Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II as the UNAIDS ambassador in Africa.

In an unusual way, The speaker and deputy of parliament were in company with Former leader of opposition Rt Hon Mathias Mpuuga who dodged the same visit by his party National Unity Platform led by the Rt.Hon Joel Ssenyonyi who visited Mengo last wéek. 

As the Parliament of Uganda, we identify with this year’s theme; “Men are stars in the fight against HIV/AIDS to save the Girl Child”.Speaker Among noted. 

"We are cognizant of the effect of HIV/AIDS on our population and we welcome the effort of the Buganda Kingdom in complementing Government’s effort in combating HIV/AIDS"

 This will certainly contribute to the UNAIDS target of eliminating HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that have a common cross-cutting health theme.she added. 

I am immensely honoured to pay this courtesy visit to the Royal Kingdom of Buganda and to be part of the Kabaka Royal Birthday Run, 2024.  Besides just registering for the Run, we are here to officially declare our support for the Kabaka Royal Birthday Run, 2024.Speaker Among.

Rt.Hon.Mathias Mpuuga confirmed joing the parliamentary leadership to visit Mengo in support of the birthday run. 

The Deputy Speaker Rt.Hon.Thomas Tayebwa expressed support for the forthcoming Kabaka's birthday run, which will take place on Sunday, April 7th, 2024, under the theme "Men are stars in the fight against HIV/AIDS to save the Girl Child." 

He thanked the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, for the warm reception and encouraged all Members of Parliament to participate in the upcoming KabakaBirthdayRun scheduled to take place on Sunday.

Speaker Tayebwa has urged all the 529 MPs to participate in the Kabaka birthday run, as all their kits have been catered for by MPs subscribing to the Buganda Caucus saying,

 “The Buganda caucus has bought a kit for each MP, so there is no reason for you not to run. If you don’t go to run, please refund that money so that we can take it to Mengo. If you can’t run, contribute in another way.”Speaker Tayebwa told Mps.
