UBOS Gets Shs 158bn Ahead Of National Population Census
The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has released a total of shs 158bn to Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) to kick start grass root activities ahead of National Population Census which is scheduled to take place early next year, Spyreports has learnt.
According to the Permanent Secretary/ Secretary to the Treasury PSST Mr Ramathan Goobi, shs 158bn was part of the shs 9.2trn that government released for the second quarter.
It is remembered that some of activities headed of National Population Census were halted due to COVID 19 which put government in financial crisis.
Recently UBOS Executive Director Dr Chris Mukiza said population Census which was supposed to be conducted in August was pushed due to delay in Procurement process where the government had not released funds to begin the process.
Dr Mukiza said UBOS had requested cabinet to set a new date for carrying out National Census.
He further said UBOS had conducted almost 80% of digital mapping which is a prerequisite before conducting National Population Census.
"We had covered mapping in most of the Districts in Uganda. We were remaining with Municipalities to finish the mapping exercise," says Dr Mukiza in recent media interviews.
