Uganda and Saudi Arabia Sign New Agreement on Labor Externalization.
The government of Uganda has signed a new agreement with Saudi Arabia for the resumption of externalization of labor to the Middle East, following its suspension in December 2022.
The Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Betty Amongi, signed the agreement on behalf of the Ugandan government.
The agreement includes provisions for improving the welfare and rights of domestic workers, and ensures that no deductions on salaries will be made except those authorized by law or the employee.
The transfer of employees and renewal of contracts will also be regulated, and a Joint Technical Committee will be established within two months.
The delay in the resumption of the externalization process has caused financial losses for labor externalization companies.
Addressing the Media at the Uganda media centre, Minister Amongi said a Joint Technical Committee for monitoring the implementation of the Bilateral Labour Agreement will be constituted within two months of signing.
