Uganda To Celebrate World Engineering Day Next Wednesday .

UNESCO's General Conference proclaimed the 4th March of every year as World Engineering Day during its 49th session in November 2019. Uganda is to join the rest of the World to celebrate World Engineering Day which will run under the theme; 'Engineering Solutions for a Sustainable World'.

The state minister for works hon. Musa Echweru stated that, the celebration is an opportunity to promote engineering as a career and highlight how engineering can change the world for the better.

The minister added that the day is an opportunity to engage with government and industry to address the need for engineering capacity and the quality of engineers around the world and develop strategic frameworks and best practices for the implementation of engineering solutions for sustainable development.

The sustainable development concept of World Engineering Day requires Ugandans as Engineers and citizens to consider the impact on our own lives and on the infrastructure and products we produce. Said the minister.

With the infrastructure and products and processes becoming increasingly complex, engineers need to integrate consideration of whole-life environment and social impacts, positive and negative with the mainstream and commercial aspects of their work.

Wise use of natural resources, minimum adverse impact, and maximum positive impact on people and the environment should be a target. He added.

The minister disclosed that this year's World Engineering Day celebrations shall be a three-day event to be held from Sunday 3rd to Tuesday 5th March 2024 with a series of events.

Sunday 3rd March shall be for the Engineers Run and sports gala at Kyambogo Cricket Oval, Monday 4th March will be a conference day at Hotel Africana in Kampala while Tuesday 5th will be the climax where 165 newly Registered Engineers will take their Oath at ERS Secretariat offices in Kyambogo.

Several delegates from the East African partner states like Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda have confired their attendence at the celebrations
