The High court Anti corruption Division has today started hearing a case in which Members of Parliament Cissy Namujju Dionizia (Lwengo district), Paul Akamba(Busiki county) and Yusuf Mutembuli(Bunyole East) are accused of asking for a bribe from Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) Boss Mariam Wangadya before passing their budget.

The accused denied the charges after pending close two months on remand in Luzira

The UHRC commission chair Mariam Wangadya has told Court that Hon Yusuf Mutembuli told her that all MDAs give Legislators a 5% budget cut before their Budgets are passed.

This was amidst pleas to have the commission's budget increased adding  She came to know mutembule in 2023/2024 when she had gone to present the UHRC budget.

The case is before Justice Lawrence Gidudu.

The accused Legislators first appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court chief magistrate Joan Aciro and denied the allegations of corruption.

The accused legal team including their very own Asuman Basalirwa sought bail on grounds that "The magnitude of crime they are being accused doesn't equate to denial of bail," Basalirwa argued.

"The roles as MPs require them to be out to serve thousands their represent but up to now they are still in jail on remand."
