UIA Deputy Director General Paul Kyalimpa Resigns, Goes For Further Professional Training

The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) Deputy Director General, Paul Kyalimpa has resigned with a notice that indicated ''he decided to go and undertake professional training for more than one year, that requires intense concentration and dedication.”

“Please accept this letter as a formal notice of my resignation from the post of Deputy Director General as per UIA Human Resource Manual 2021,” said Kyalimpa in his resignation letter dated May 16, 2024.

UIA’s board chairman, Morrison Rwakakamba received the letter on May 20, 2024, according to official records.

He added: “Iintend to take my remaining annual leave for the Financial Year 2023/24 on 27th May 2024 and thereafter return to office to finalize the handover process.”

The resignation comes at a time State Minister of Finance in charge of Privatisation, Evelyne Anite is mounting pressure on UIA’s top management to return the Shs. 545 million  received as ‘honoraria’ from funds earmarked for construction of transport infrastructure in Namanve Industrial Park.

The Deputy Director General Paul Kyalimpa is said to have resigned amid the contentious 500m service award that was doled out to some members of the staff and bosses

UIA is yet to make an official announcement about the development.

Kyalimpa recently threatened to sue the Minister for defamation after mentioning his name in the saga.

“You Published the said words knowing they were false having calculated that the benefit to them would be in terms of political capital while lowering and injuring our client an ardent Christian, Deputy Director General-UIA, Political Leader, and a family man,” Kyalimpa’s lawyers said in a letter to Anite on June 26, 2024.

Anite responded: “It is my unwavering position that I pledge to defend the taxpayers of Uganda against corruption, abuse of office and misuse of public funds, be it even in the courts of law in Uganda or anywhere in the world, to the last drop of my blood. So, bring it on.”

“I thank you for the opportunity availed to me to serve the nation through Uganda Investment Authority,” said Kyalimpa in his resignation letter.

“I remain proud of my contribution to UIA and Uganda at large and look forward to continue supporting the investment agenda as a domestic investor and in my future tour of duty,” he added.

Kyalimpa joined UIA in 2020.

He had contested against Finance Minister Matia Kasaija for the MP seat of Buyanja County in Kibale district.

Kyalimpa who was an independent candidate, withdrew from the MP race, leaving the minister to take the MP post unopposed.
