Woman Captured In Viral Video Insulting Traffic Police Officer Arrested
Police in Kampala have confirmed the arrest of a woman identified as Mercy Timbitwire Bashiha who was captured on video assaulting a traffic police officer.
According to a viral video clip making rounds on social media, the woman, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was involved in a confrontation with the officer following an argument with the latter.
The incident reportedly occurred after the officer tried to stop her for driving while using her phone.
"A traffic officer on duty at MUBS intercepted, the driver of vehicle UBM 439T T/Landcruiser, Mercy Timbitwire Bashisha for using her phone while driving. Despite repeated instructions to stop, the driver refused and continued driving to Lugogo traffic lights, where the officer pursued and stopped her again. She then proceeded to UMA, where she and her other friend allegedly assaulted the officer, seizing his phones and a police EPS gadget printer". Said Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke.
The two ladies have been charged and are currently detained pending court proceedings.adds Rusoke.
In the video clip, during the argument, she began recording the officer, and when he tried to take the her phone away, she slapped him.
Following the video's circulation, many social media users called for her arrest over what they said was "unacceptable" behavior.
