Worker Mysteriously Dies inside Victoria Sugar Factory
Detectives in Luwero district are investigating circumstances under which a worker at Victoria suger factory died on Monday 20/11/2023 at 09:00am.
The deceased has been identified as Rwothomiyo Isaac aged 25 years old, an Alur by tribe, a casual worker at Victoria Sugar factory and a resident of Ndibulungi village, Kakabala parish, Butuntumula subcounty in Luwero district.
Preliminary findings indicate that on Monday 20/11/2023 at about 9am, the victim was on duty at Bagasse yard in Victoria sugar factory. Bagasse is a by product of sugar canes used for heating the boilers and it was heaped, then the victim was pushing it to the RBS machine that pulls bagasse to the boiler.
The heap of Bagasse fell on him that forced him into the RBS machine and eventually crushed him to death. "It was unfortunate that the RBS were opened with out safety measures like wire mesh which could have protected him from getting in contact with running machine," said Ayoko Esther a 29 year old Human Resources Manager at Victoria sugar factory and resident ofNdibulungi village, Kakabala parish, Butuntumula subcounty in Luwero district.
The Savannah region spokesperson, ASP TwiineAmazima Sam said, "upon receiving this information, police responded in time, a case file of alleged Rash and neglect to cause death was opened, scene of Crime visited and documented by soco and other detectives, statements from relevant witnesses and staff were recorded and body was conveyed to Mulago city mortuary for postmortem examination. More inquiries are still at hand."
