Don't Use Government Gadgets As Security To Get Loans, Beers In Bars- ED UBOS Warns Census Trainers
The Executive Director of Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Dr Chris Mukiza has strongly warned census trainers not to use the government gadgets as security to obtain their loans from money lenders or to get beers from the bars when they fail to pay, Spyreports has established.
Dr Mukiza issued the warning during the closure of 9 days training of trainers that was held at Speke resort in Munyonyo in Kampala on Friday. A total of 789 participants from local Government, Special interests groups like UPDF,Police and prisons and from UBOS attended and were equipped with skills which they will use to train others.
"These properties are not yours. They belong to government and who ever uses it to get a quick loan or beers from the bars will be arrested and prosecuted," Warned Dr Mukiza.
He added that am telling you in front of security Chiefs. "We have your NIN numbers and telephone numbers, we shall trace you in case you try to hide," He says. He urges them to protect them well because after Census, they will continue doing government work. The National Census Commissioner also revealed to the Nation that 98% of all villages in the Country are listed and mapped and the remains 2%will be concluded by close of April. "The biggest work is still in Karamoja,Kotido,Kabongo and Nakapiripiriti districts," he says.
He added that 50 villages in Kikube are still missing. He revealed that all tablets that will be used in digital census are in UBOS stores with their power banks. Dr Mukiza also warned the trainers to avoid segregation during this Census.
"You district people are not transparent you segregate people and this issue has even reached Parliament. So let's avoid it," Sounds Dr Mukiza. He says planning Units of the districts must be on the fore front. Col Emmy Katabazi the Deputy Director ISO assured UBOS of their full support during this exercise.
"All the DISOs in the Country have been ordered to hand over their vehicles to help in Census exercise," he said adding that they are well serviced. He also urged the trainers to be patriotic while serving their Country. "While doing this, we must put personal commitments to developed our Country not to look for money," he says.
He added that if Census was given to Security, we would have worked with or without resources. He says UBOS data helps security to know where people stay. "You can not provide security to people you don't know, where they stay and how they stay," he says. After the closure of the training, participants were taken for cocktail where eats and drinks were floating.
The enjoyment was high and the party went up to 11:00pm as eats and drinks still available.
