GENESIS OF THE THE MATTER
It is reported that the family of Late Yorokamu Tumusiime of Kyangara, Nyarubare in Ntungamo district has been having a land wrangle with Ntungamo Sub County which has lasted for very many years.
The family says their late father bought the land measuring approximately 3.5 hectares from one John Patrick Kabenje 50 years agao. They claim that all they were born from that land and even their father was buried there in 1995. The family adds that around 2012, they started the process of acquiring a land title for their land but were frustrated by political leaders who had developed interest in their land.
"In 2012 the family started the processing a certificate of title of their land. The area Land committee duly approved their application and forwarded to District Land Board for grant of free hold offer which was received," Reads part of the family documents.
Documents further show that before payments were made, some political leaders namely, Mugabi Sam former LCV Councillor for Ntungamo Sub County and One Enos Matanure former LC 3 Chairperson halted the process claiming that part of the land belonged to government whereas not.
Some of the family members whom we talked to say that around the beginning of this year, they got information that part of their land was going to be leased to FUFA as the foot ball play ground. "We rushed and put the adverts on Radio Ankole informing the public that the land which is called a play ground does not belong to government but its part of their family land," Mr Mwebaza H. Tumusiime told us.
He added that later the RDC Ntungamo District  Mucunguzi Godfrey called their family for a meeting. "RDC called for a meeting between our family and members of the District. The meeting was scheduled at mid day but RDC came at 6:15pm," Says Mwebaza adding that to their surprise RDC made a ruling giving away their land. He added that as the family, they all resolved to use their land according to the law.
He added that in May they filled their land with marram to level it and start using it. "When we did it, police came and took us to Ntungamo Police station and we recorded our statements showing how we own the land," Says Mwebaza adding that police instructed that no activity should be done on that land until court rules out.
Mwebaza says that to their surprise and shock,  last Thursday, they received information saying that Capt Yona Asasira came with a group of goons and started removing marram which was an exhibit of police. Yona says he was working on orders of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba who gave back the land to public.
