Jua-Kali Workers Celebrating As Parliament Allocates Shs3bn To Boost Their Enterprises
Government has allocated Shs3bn to Jua-kali Enterprises for transition into Formal Economy, while Shs5Bn was allocated as Enterprise Funds for Older Persons, and additional Shs121.218bn was earmarked towards Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment (SAGE).
Additionally, Shs13.2bn has been allocated for Special grants for Persons with Disability, while Shs8.7bn is earmarked for the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP).
The same Parliament of Uganda has approved the proposal to reallocate Shs870Mn initially earmarked for Workshops, Meetings and Seminars by Ministry of Public Service and have the funds instead spent on the payment of emoluments to former Presidents and the Vice Presidents.
During the consideration of the 2024/25 budget, Parliament also approved Government's proposal to reallocate Shs8.336Bn Uganda Heart Institute (UHI) that had been budgeted for payment of staff allowances and instead, had the funds go towards payment of salaries for Contract Staff.
Government on the same note asked the legislators to reallocate Shs300M National Medical Stores had allocated for staff welfare and entertainment, and instead have the money cater for payment of the insurance cover for the Drugs.
For the priority areas in the 2024/25 national budget, Government has set aside Shs1.077 Trillion for financial inclusion through the Parish Development Model, while Emgooga SACCOs have been allocated Shs100Bn of which Shs20bn are for teachers SACCOs.
And in order to enhance women participation in development, Gov’t has earmarked Shs13.056Bn to the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) as a revolving fund; and additional Shs342.23bn has been earmarked for enhancing growth and productivity opportunities for women enterprises
