Justice Stella Amoko Arach’s Burial Postponed due to Family Dispute
The burial of former Supreme Court Judge Stella Amoko Arach has been postponed due to an ongoing family dispute regarding the burial grounds. The disagreement arises between the children, who want their mother buried at the ancestral grounds in Nebbi, and the husband, Ambassador James Amoko, who wishes for her to be buried in Adjumani.
The Judiciary Chief Registrar, Sara Langa, announced the postponement, citing factors beyond their control. Meanwhile, the children have taken the matter to court, seeking an order to have their mother buried in Nebbi as per her expressed wish. They argue that the announcement of Adjumani as the burial grounds was contrary to their mother's oral will.
According to the deceased's brother, the late judge had expressed her desire to be buried in Nebbi near her late father and aunt. The family and children had previously agreed that Nebbi would be the final resting place, but the husband's relatives apparently conveyed different views at a meeting held at the president's office.
The court is expected to determine the children's application. The family's lawyers have expressed their intention to take legal action to protect the wishes of the deceased if their concerns are disregarded.
