NUP Leader Reshuffles Shadow Cabinet
The National Unity Platform NUP party which has the largest number of representatives from the opposition has reshuffled the shadow cabinet.
NUP leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine named Nakawa West Joel Ssenyonyi as the new Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LoP). He replaces Nyendo – Mukungwe MP, Mathias Mpuuga who has been named commissioner of Parliament.
The Nakawa West MP Hon Joel Ssenyonyi in his inaugural address said, "I'm glad that Mathias Mpuuga has offered to keep guiding me as I take on this task [of LoP]. I'm not the most educated nor most experienced among the opposition members. I might not even be the most deserving to be appointed LoP, according to some people, but such is leadership...,"
Meanwhile the outgoing LoP Rt Hon Mathias Mpuuga expressed his sincere gratitude to his party NUP and the President Hon Kyagulanyi for entrusting him with the leadership of the Opposition in Parliament.
"It was an honour to lead a team of young multi skilled and talended 'political novices'. I'm glad that we've been able to make the best out of them.
Thank you to colleague MPs, the staff and the leadership of Parliament for the backstopping you rendered during my time as LOP. Thank you for being part of my daily challenges and outputs. I can't thank enough the people of Nyendo-Mukungwe who sent me to represent what they believe in."
He further said, "Thank you the people of Uganda for keenly following the work of LoP and routinely challenging us to do more and better. I promise to forever be available whenever and wherever given opportunity to be at the service of Uganda."
Other appointed leaders expressed gratitude including Hon Francis Mwijukye. "I once again thank NUP Leadership for appointing me Shadow Minister for Works & Transport in the Parliament. I thank you for the confidence that you have in me. I look forward achieve more for our country in the sector! Together we shall build our country!" The Buhweju County representative said.
