Traffic Police Impounds 10 Drone Vehicles, School Bus Ferrying Passengers Without PSV Licences, Drivers Arrested.
Traffic officers on Friday impounded over 10 Drone vehicles and a school bus after getting them ferrying passengers without PSV licences and arrested their drivers. Senior commissioner of police SCP Nuwabine Lawrence who is the director traffic and road safety in Uganda police told us that, they started mounting check points across the country to ensure that accidents especially during this Xmas festives are stopped. As a directorate, "we have put all measures and equipped our officers on the roads across the country to ensure that drivers have all what it takes to drive passengers and also ensure that their vehicles are on good conditions to be on the roads," says Nuwabine Lawrence. Nuwabine added that officers are carrying abrupt spot checks on drivers who are driving while drunk adding that they have already arrested several drivers and others ran away to the nearby swamps to avoid being arrested. The traffic boss also revealed how they are using cameras on the roads to arrest errant drivers who are driving reckless and over speeding. Nuwabine noted that most of these drivers who are committing these offenses drive at night thinking that traffic officers are not on the roads and that they can dodge traffic check points. "We mounted our checkpoint at Jinja High bridge at night where we impounded these 10 Drone vehicles Ferrying passengers without PSV licences adding that traffic operations are continuing day and night especially during this Xmas festives,"says Nuwabine Lawrence. Traffic boss appealed to the public that are using these public means and even those using private means to be vigilant and report any errant driver who will be driving reckless on the roads saying traffic officers need cooperation from the public to completely remove accidents.
