Opposition MPs Reject Shs 350m Budget for M7 Clothes
Opposition legislators sitting on the Budget Committee of Parliament in a minority report rejected the UGX 350 million provided for buying clothes for the president on budget allocations for the Financial Year 2023/24.
The authors of the Minority Report are Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi (Butambala County, NUP), Hon. Adeke Anna (Soroti District, FDC), Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju (Kira Municipality, FDC), Hon. Lulume Bayiga (Buikwe south, DP) and Hon. Gorreth Namugga (Mawogola County, NUP).
The five legislators have identified about UGX 454 billion which they think would be wasteful expenditure by the President.
"Our President is not a star from Hollywood requiring to change wardrobe every day. He is a President of a poor country. Why buy him clothes worth UGX 350 million every year. What happened to the clothes that we bought last year?" the Minority authors asked.
They are also questioning the provision of UGX 600 million for furniture in the State House which is the same amount that was appropriated in the current financial year.
"We are providing UGX 7.8 billion for Agriculture supplies. We are also providing another UGX184 billion for veterinary services. Did the President turn the State House into a farm without the knowledge of the country? Parliament must be sure that we are not the ones funding President Museveni's private farms in Kisozi and Rwakitura." adds part of the Minority report
The Minority Report also questions the budget allocations to Presidency and State House. They argue that instead of providing for one residence for the President, the government has allocated money for both Nakasero State Lodge and State House Entebbe.
Other areas of dissent are:
Failure to provide for Medical Interns.
Senior House Officer's allowances and funding for Uganda Red Cross Society.
Blotted budget for the Presidency at the expense of other priority sectors.
Suspicious budget allocations and reallocations.
