Parliament Pays Tribute to Late Minister Engola
Parliament has today held a special sitting to pay tribute to the late state minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, and Member of Parliament for Oyam North constituency in Oyam District, Hon. Okello Charles Engola. The sitting is chaired by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Anitah Among who expressed her displeasure with the unfortunate practice in which people celebrate the death of those they don’t agree with.
“It is inhuman, it is also uncultured and very immoral to celebrate the death of anyone because you hold divergent views. Beyond our different political and religious affiliations we are humans. It is normal to disagree and hold different views but what binds us together is that we are all human beings." - Rt. Hon.
Anitah Among said.
The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja moved a motion for Parliament to pay tribute to the late Hon. Okello Charles Engola.
The Prime Minister eulogised the late as a war hero who played a fundamental role in the pacification of Northern Uganda against the LRA insurgency and acquired the name, “Macodwogo” meaning, “fire has returned".
The Prime Minister also described him as someone who served his country as a humble servant, fearless warrior and with utmost honesty.
Engola was shot at his residence in Kyanja by one of his bodyguards Wilson Sabiiti who later took his own life. Engola is expected to be buried on May 13 at his ancestral home in Awangi village, Iceme sub county Oyam District.
