Police Arrest 11 Kyambogo University Students Over Guild Elections

Police have arrested 11 students from Kyambogo University who marched to the University Senate Building, which houses the Administration, with a petition protesting the management's decision to put in place a caretaker government as they wait for the 2024/25 polls, which were suspended last week.

The University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eli Katunguka, suspended the guild polls until further notice on October 25, citing allegations that the students' Electoral Body was being questioned by some of the contesting candidates.

Students stated that these allegations are not true and that the management's move to install a caretaker government, which they termed as a puppet, will not only deny them their rights but also negatively affect them since their grievances won't be addressed properly.

They added that, they seek fair representation and respect for their rights. Attempts to impose a candidate on the guild, without acknowledging the students’ choice, undermine the democratic process and fuel unrest
