Police Beg Traders On Strike To Open-up Shops In Kampala

Police in Kampala has resorted to using megaphones to beg traders on strike to open up their shops promising those who my wish to conduct their business but in fear tight security and safety of their property.

This follows the strike to enter the second day and with unannounced end date by trade leaders. 

The strike was after the communication from the trade minister sending message to trade leaders that the scheduled July 31,2024 meeting between traders and President Museveni was postponed to yet specified date toward the end of August 2024.

According to the communication, the postponement was due to ongoing renovations at the kololo Independence Grounds which the traders oppose.

Issa Ssekitto the Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) noted that traders are ready to meet the president at any venue decided bu him to talk about their issues.

The traders want President Museveni to address their protest against unfair tax administration system by Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) like EFRIS. 

They also oppose foreigners conducting retail businesses while possing as investors in the country.

However some shops along Nasser road, Mukwano Arcade, Mukwano Lane and Ben Kiwanuka streets remain open while others closed.
