Police Summons Bobiwine's NUP Management Over The School Leadership.

Police in Kampala has invited the National Unity Platform (NUP) to its headquarters at Naguru to clarify on the operations of the recently commissioned Party Leadership School at the former party headquarters in Kamwokya.

In the letter addressed to NUP secretary general, and signed by SCP Moses Kafeero Kabugo indicated that police wants to ascerten the content taught, the status of the school and the facilitators at this leadership school.

According to this letter the summoned NUP Leadership is expected to appear before police Human Resource development and training Uganda police tomorrow Thursday 4th July 2024 at 10:00am

In response, NUP leadership has confirmed attending the meeting as requested by police. 

"Our team will be there to interact with them. We hope this is not another attempt to illegally block and frustrate our activities".  NUP posted on its  social media X handle.

NUP says that all political parties in Uganda have always undertaken training of their leaders and members and have not seen the police pick similar interest in their activities!. "The NRM has been having what they call ideology clinics. The FDC recently launched a Leadership academy. Other parties have always undertaken training including ourselves". The party posted.

 " We have been training our leaders ever since we started- except that now, our School of Leadership has centralized these trainings. At our school, we do not and have not purported to offer accredited programs leading to awards of academic qualifications". They added.

Those who attend the training will only get certificates of attendance. Our trainings focus on the values, principles and objectives of our Party - largely facilitated by various leaders of the Party. NUP stressed.

NUP secretary Authority Lewis Rubongoya posted on X handle, "Hopefully, before long, they won't say NUP is training rebels or involved in subversive activities! One wonders what the director for training in Police has to do with a leadership school of a political party! We've not seen them pick interest in the trainings of other parties. Authoritarian regimes have always been very scared about any effort to educate the people".
