Speaker Among Blames Cabinet Over ACusing Laegislators Being Bribed During RAEX bills.
The Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Annet Among has accused Cabinet of engaging in what she called idle talk that Members of Parliament were bribed to stop merger of some agencies back to their ministries saying if Ministers think MPs aren’t doing anything in Uganda, then they should close Parliament.
The Speaker also revealed that Parliament had considered 29 RAPEX Bills of which, 22 were passed, 8 were rejected and 7 were withdrawn by the Executive.
She also urged the Executive to carefully study the concerns of the MPs like the defective certificate of financial implications and how the rationalization process will impact on actual service delivery and have these addressed.
“All the decisions done by the legislature are done in utmost faith not with any bad intention. So when we hear members having idle talks in Cabinet that members are being bribed, members are here, why don’t you come and argue in the House? We legislate for people and you say we have rejected reports, they aren’t doing anything, if we aren’t doing anything, close Parliament,” said Seaker Among.
“When you continue having those idle talks that Parliament is useless, we aren’t and we shall not be. We will continue doing work for this country if you feel hurt that the RAPEX Bills were done unfairly, come back bring back the Bills, the House will still look at them if it means considering them, it will do it,”. The Seaker added .
