State Minister for Karamoja, Agnes Nandutu fails to appear before CID, Risks Arrest.

The Police have reported that Hon.Agnes Nandutu, the State Minister for Karamoja, did not honor summons to appear before the Criminal Investigations Division headquarters in Kibuli as a witness in ongoing Karamoja iron sheets investigations.

According to Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson, Nandutu was expected to appear on Friday but did not show up, and she did not provide a reason for her absence.

“There are some of the witnesses we interviewed from the beginning of the investigations and we have re-invited to reappear at CID headquarters but some of them have not appeared. For example, Hon Agnes Nandutu was summoned to reappear at CID headquarters but she didn’t turn up,”Enanga said.

Enanga however didn’t commit himself on the fate of the minister in case she totally refuses to appear at CID as summoned, but it is likely that on refusal, the minister risks arrest.

According to the Police spokesperson, the decision to arrest individuals who are connected to the iron sheets scandal will be determined based on two factors: the recommendation of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the evidence available against them.

“We have a separate file on each person that we sent to the DPP. On reading the file and weighing evidence, the DPP has discretion to determine who is to be arraigned in court or not.”

Several high-ranking government officials, including Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, and others, have been implicated in the Karamoja iron sheet scandal.
