Subaru Driver who Attempted to Runover Cop Remanded to Luzira

The Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Courthas remanded the Subaru driver who was captured in a widely circulated video attempting to run over a traffic police officer at the Jinja Road traffic lights, to Luzira prison.

Isaac Mukwaya, a 35-year-old psychologist residing in Mutungo, Nakawa Division, Kampala, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi and pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him. Mukwaya is facing two counts of careless driving or inconsiderate use of a motor vehicle.

According to the prosecution led by Ivan Kyazze, the incident occurred on June 12, 2023, at the parking yard of Lyca Mobile Company in Kampala. It is alleged that Mukwaya drove his Subaru Forester (registration number UAZ 515C) on the road without considering other road users. Furthermore, it is claimed that at the Jinja Road traffic lights along the Kampala-Jinja highway, Mukwaya failed to stop when signaled by Police Officer Katongole Jotham, who was performing his official duties.

Mukwaya has been remanded to Luzira prison until June 20, 2023, when his bail ruling is scheduled to take place.
