Suspect Arrested on Charges of Kidnap, Defilement and Murder

The territorial Police in Bukedi South and Tororo has in custody a one Okongo Gerald, a 25-year, resident of Asinga “B” village, Malaba Town Council, for the kidnap, aggravated defilement and murder of a one-and-a-half-year-old, female juvenile identified as Promise Atte.

According to reports, the girl victim was last seen playing with a 2-year-old child on the 30.06.2023 at around midnight, from Mama Musa’s bar, at Asinga “B” Zone, where her mother, Naziwa Grace, was drinking from. The following day on 01.07.2023, at around 7:30am, the body of the 18-month-old victim was found lying dead in a cassava garden in Amagoro central. The K9 dog was introduced to the scene and led to the arrest of the suspect.

The victim was kidnapped from Asinga “B” village, defiled and murdered in a cassava garden. She sustained vicious physical injuries across the body and her private parts. A pamper with faeces, was also recovered at the scene. She was an innocent toddler, who would have felt safe and secure in the presence of an older person.

"As Police, we strongly condemn the vicious physical and sexual assault of the victim. We are going to ensure our Sexual and Gender Based Violence  Department, closely follows the matter, to court up to its logical conclusion," Fred Enanga the Police Spokesperson said.
