Suspected Robber Arrested Over Breaking Into Neighbour's House, Sexual Assault

PRESS STATEMENT 1st October 2024 *Arrest of Suspect in Connection with Robbery and sexual assault Incident in Kawempe Division*

The Police at Kawempe in Kampala City have arrested one Ssemanda Tony, a 28-year-old male, in connection with a robbery and Sexual assault case that occurred in Kawempe Division on the night of 17th August 2024.

 Ssemanda, who was on the run after the incident, was apprehended on monday, 30th September 2024, and is currently detained at Kawempe Police Station pending further interrogation.

 It is alleged that on the night of 17th August 2024, a group of about three men broke into the home of a 34-year-old female victim. During the attack, the victim was sexually Assaulted , and her property, including cash worth UGX 200,000, two mobile phones, and a 32-inch television, was stolen.

During the incident, the victim's child, who had been asleep in another room, woke up and turned on the lights, allowing the victim to identify one of the attackers, Ssemanda Tony, who was a neighbor.

 The other suspects remain unidentified and after the crime, Ssemanda fled the area.

 Tha Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire revealed that Ssemanda has a history of criminal activity and had previously been imprisoned for a similar offense.

He was released in June 2024 and upon his return to the area, the Police received information leading to his arrest.He adds.

 A search of the suspect's premises yielded a breaking implement and a knife, which have been recovered as part of the ongoing investigation.Police confirm.

 "The Kampala Metropolitan Police is committed to ensuring justice for the victim and will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
