Suspects in Katanga’s Murder Remanded to Luzira Prison

Nakawa Magistrate's Court has remanded three suspects to Luzira prison on several charges in regards to the murder of Henry Katanga. The suspects include; Patricia Kakwanza the 32 year old daughter to the deceased, Dr Charles Otai and a domestic worker George Amanyire.

The trio faces charges of destroying evidence and accessory after the fact of murder. The Chief magistrate Erias Kakooza remanded the suspects to Luzira prison until 4th December, 2023 when their bail application will be heard since the offences they are charged with are bailable.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo meanwhile slapped murder charges against Molly Katanga for allegedly killing her husband Henry Katanga, although she did not appear in court as she is still hospitalized in a critical condition.

Katanga was shot dead using a pistol inside their master's bedroom at Mbuya Hill on November 2. Police detectives after getting two clues during investigations decided to compile reports of two accounts. The first one pointed to possible suicide while another pointed to murder.

However, during investigations, it was established that Katanga's body was removed from the bedroom to the sitting room. Investigations revealed that there was a deliberate effort to erase evidence with the help of the deceased's daughter and the shamba boy George Amanyire. It was established that Dr Charles Otai was also invited in an attempt to disguise the death as suicide.

After compiling evidence, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Directorate of Forensic Science (DFS) agreed to submit the evidence to the DPP to decide the fate of every suspect in the murder.

Jacqueline Okui, the DPP spokesperson on Tuesday confirmed that murder charges have been slapped against Molly Katanga.

Okui also explained that Patricia Kakwanza and Martha Katanga Nkwanzi have been charged with destroying evidence by tampering with the murder scene.
