ULS President Ssemakadde Expels AG, Solicitor General From Governing Council
The Uganda Law Society President Isaac Ssemakadde has expelled the Attorney General(AG), the Solicitor General and their representatives from our governing council.
This implies that, By this order, the AG Kiryowa Kiwanuka is no longer the recognized as the Head of the Bar and has no authority or competence whatsoever to act for on behalf or to represent the Ugandan Bar. He however remains a member of the Uganda Law Society.
Ssemakadde cited reasons like safeguarding the independence of the legal profession.
He says, the AG and the solictor general's Ex official positions on the ULS council are a colonial hangover, incompatible with the radical new Bar's Autonomy.
He further wants to have a forensic investigation of criminal and professional misconduct by the current AG Kiryowa Kiwanuka.
However, by press time the Attorney General had not responded to ULS expulsion letter.
