24 Illegal Immigrants Arrested and Will Be Arraigned in Court
A joint security team has apprehended 24 illegal immigrants in an operation held in the Central Business District, Kampala. They were arrested around areas of Energy Center, Johnstone Street, Kikuubo area and the wider Kampala.
According to Simon Peter Mundeyi the Public Relations Officer PRO, Internal Affairs Ministry, "most of the arrested immigrants were of; Indian, Pakistani and Chinese descent."
The immigrants were found without the requisite documentation; some of them only had visitors passes, others didn't have work permits, they lacked passports whereas others were engaging in activities that are not permitted to be handled by foreign nationals.
"We picked these people, brought them to our immigration headquarters for further investigation. 9 of the arrested are going to be arraigned in courts of law today and will be prosecuted. They will be deported in two days.." Mundeyi emphasized.
He further stated that the Department of Inspection and Legal Services has been carrying out operations in areas of Bunga, Kabalagala, Western Uganda, and other regions.
