Besigye, Obeid Lutale Remanded Back To Luzira Until, Martha Karua To rally Pan African Lawyers

Senior Counsel Martha Karua from Kenya has vowed to rally more lawyers from under pan African Lawyers fraternity to Ugandan court martial in defence of Dr Kizza Besigye And Obeid Lutale cases citing breach of Kenyan Constitution and violation of Human Rights.

She told media in Kampala that, they are coordinating lawyers from Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania and Kenya to join Uganda's legal team in this case.

Karua who is waiting for her temporary practicing certificate from Uganda Law Council noted that they are to file several petitions to East African Court of Justice over human rights violations.

The followed the court martial on makindye remanding Besigye and Lutale until December 10 2024.

The lead counsel Erias Lukwage has blamed the security officer at the court over blocking some of the lawyers in this case noting that they had prepared a team of 50 lawyers but only 35 were granted in the courtroom.

Dr Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale, allegedly abducted by Ugandan security operatives in Nairobi on November 16 now facing charges related to national security and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The lead lawyer, Martha Karua was expected to lead the legal team after submitting her application for a temporary practicing certificate on 27 November 2024 but still waiting for this certificate tomorrow Tuesday 3 December 2024.
